The advantages and disadvantages of Camcorders

The Basic Features

The Flip ltra camcorder features a 1.5 inch TFT display and, thanks to a 1/4 inch VGA CMOS sensor, captures video at 640x480 resolution at 30fps. It also boasts a 2x digital zoom and powers up in4 seconds ad has a battery life of 4 hours. It also measures just 100x50x16mm and weighs 94g

The good

Anybody can use this camera, no matter what level of technology you are used to it is so simple to use. One of the best things about this camcorder is that it is very easy to transport as it is small enough to fit in most pockets. The camcorder also powers up in 4 seconds which is very handy when recording something without planning it. The built in USB connector is also very helpful as you don't need to bring any cables to move footage onto a computer.

The Bad

The camera only has 2x digital zoom so if you want to film something from far away this camera is not ideal. Another issue is that if the usb connector breaks there will be no way of moving the footage off of the camera as there is no external memory. The quality of the camera is also not the best, especially when there is poor lighting as there is no flash on the camera. Thee is also no speeding up and slowing down footage when watching playback, which could be annoying as if you have a long clip and only want to watch only a certain part of the footage you will have to wait. The 1.5 inch screen is also a bit small and can be irritating when watching play back.

The Bottom line

The small size and how easy the camera is to use out shines the fact that the quality is not great, this camera is good for people with less experience using camcorders and the price is very reasonable. I would recommend this camera to people with a small amount of experience with technology and to people who are looking to make small videos for youtube or friends and family. This camera is also great for younger people and family's as it is quite resilient and the whole family will be able to use it

Sony HD Camcorder

The Basics

The Sony HD camcorder has a 32x zoom, a flip out lcd touch screen so you can see what your recording as you record. This is also very good for playback as the touch screen is very easy to use. When using play back you can fast forward and slow down recordings The camcorder also records in full HD with 50fps and face detection. The HD cam can take still images up to 8.9mp. The weight of the camera is 345g.

The Good

This camera is very easy to use, however it is not quite so simple as the Flip camera. This camera has a 32x zoom which is great for recording things from far away. The still image option is also useful as you no longer need to carry a video&photo camera if you want both. The full HD quality is also great for uploading videos to youtube and Facebook. The flip out LCD touch screen is also very useful for playback. The features of fast forwarding and slow motion is also a fun feature and time saving because if you have a long clip and only want to see a few seconds at the end of middle of the clip you do not have to wait. This camera can also take up to 32gb sd cards which is great when recording for a long time.

The Bad

This camera is double the price of the flip camera and weighs 345g which is much heavier. The Sony HD also takes a while to load up which can be irritating when trying to record something quickly. The camera is not as easy to transport as the flip camera as it is much bigger.

The Bottom Line

This camera is a bit over priced at £229 however it has very good quality recording and  the touch screen is also very nice to use for play back. The camera is also quite heavy and not very robust. The 32x zoom is great when recording from far away as the quality doesn't change much. The fact you can have up to 32gb of memory is also great as you don't need to upload and delete all the clips off the camera every time you use it.

Overall I would pick the Sony HD camera as it has many more features such as the 32x zoom and slow motion play back, the other thing that I prefer about the Sony HD is the amount of external memry you can add to the camera.
